Eat More Fish
December 9, 2007 by Wei-Hsien Wan
My friend Luke (the one with pants on in the picture) is a fisherman who spends his summers in the lovely state of Alaska—working very hard, of course. During the rest of the year, he sells what he catches (and some more) through his very own small business, Fera Alaskan Fisheries and Seafood. He’s got a pretty charming selection of fresh aquatic tasties, from coho salmon to black cod to king crab legs, all of which can be ordered online. Now, I wouldn’t know this since I’ve never gotten any in the mail, but apparently seafood can be great Christmas gifts too….
I have great admiration for Luke for many reasons. One of these is his commitment to living in harmony with the world that God has given us. (Another is that he’s a fellow tenor who very often makes up for my shortcomings in our little Byzantine choir.) He fishes and sells only high-quality, sustainable seafood, which means that it’s better for you and for the rest of creation. It costs a bit more than the stuff you might get at a regular market, but, as my momma used to say, “You get what you pay for” (well, not quite in those words, but in an untranslatable Cantonese idiom).
Check out his website, http://feraalaskan.com/. If nothing else, you can see beautiful pictures he’s taken of Alaska, like these.
